Citizen panel on making choices in health care

During three weekends in September and October, 24 participants of a citizen panel on making choices in health care (burgerforum ‘keuzes in de zorg’) debated about the coverage of medical treatments in the basic benefit package in The Netherlands, including the underlying values and principles they find important.
This included questions as to whether society as a whole should pay for gastric bypass for overweight people, or for cosmetic dental care. The citizen council will lead to a pamphlet, which will be discussed in a conference with policy makers and stakeholders in the beginning of 2018.

The citizen panel on making choices in health care (burgerforum ‘keuzes in de zorg’) was initiated by the section HTA of the Department for Health Evidence. Project leader is Rob Baltussen.
