University with the neighbourhood

On October 11th the University-with-the-neighborhood started in Maastricht Noord-West. Together with citizens in these neighborhoods, Prof. Dr. Klasien Horstman, Dr. Mare Knibbe and PhD candidate Sanne Raap developed a program to bring together and to connect knowledge’s and skills of citizens and experts.
The current program consists of interactive Manjefiek Lectures in the neighborhood centre Manjefiek and a Philosophy Café in the library Malpertuis. The first lectures will be given by youth physician Rianne Reijs, orthopedic surgeon Lodewijk van Rhijn, and the Healthy Sisters, two Dutch Morrocan bloggers about health. Responsive to feedback and input of the neighborhoods, the program will be developed further.
At the opening the maire Mrs. Annemarie Penn te Strake and the president of the University, Prof. Martin Paul, underlined the importance of these kinds of collaborations between university and neighborhoods.
The project follows previous projects like Bianca in the Buurt and the Citizens Suummit 2015, and is part of a ZONMW financed research project ‘Positive health and resilience in post war disadvantaged neighborhoods.’
